CQuest DB: Writing and Maintaining Tests

CQuest DB is the Test Creation and Question Editor component of CQuest Assessment Software. This component makes it very easy to create question banks, tests and tutorials with a variety of question types, multimedia accompaniments to questions, easy navigation, ability to assign a question to one or many tests, and more. Some of the features include.

• Formatting:

The question field holds rich text formatting, and allows you to select your choice of Font, color, and size. You can also paste small objects in this area if needed, like equations from an equation editor.





• Question Types:

For test questions: Multiple Choice, Check All that Apply, True/False, Text or Fill in the Blank. There is also an Informational Only type that is used for Tutorials or to provide information in a test.





• Attach Pictures, Sound Clips, and Video:

Both a picture and a sound or video file may be attached to each question.





• User Defined Fields:

The third area in the screen print is a field for internal use. You can include information like who created the question/test and what date, or when the question was last reviewed and updated.





• Easy Navigation:

The far right column is a navigator for use within the database so you can go to specific questions and hop around without having to scroll through all the other questions.





• Notes and References:

There are large text areas where you may keep notes and references that pertain to the question. This information will be shown on optional test reviews in CQuest Test, the testing component. The notes field may also be used as “hints” for practice tests.





• Question Banks:

Unlimited Question Banks, Unlimited Tests, Unlimited Questions. The bottom right panel in the screen print below is one of the sections that can help to take your testing, assessment, certifications, quizzes, and tutorials to a new level. This view shows that there are currently 4 tests available in the database and this particular question is only linked to one test, Chugwater tutorial and test. Once a question is entered in a database you can link that question to multiple tests with just a mouse click. This saves you time in your test creation.

Also in this section you will see there are three tabs, with the Tests tab being the current view. On the Media tab you are able to put in movies, pictures, and sound files to enhance your tests with visual and auditory clues. The Notes and References tab is the third and one of the more useful tabs. You are able to provide notes and references to the students in this tab. This is used by people who are creating practices exams for certification tests, tutorials, and self guided training.

You are able to set your testing options (in CQuest Administrator) to allow the student to see these fields in a variety of ways. This has been useful for organizations to convert their Human Resources handbooks into a CQuest database as a tutorial followed with a quiz. The employee is able to go through any given training manual, and can be provided immediate feedback as to what page or section they should go back and review. This can help reduce the cost in your training department and helps to improve employee retention and scores.

Tutorials and practice exams are used throughout education and industry to help people who are preparing for certification exams, state licensure exams, federal licensure exams, continuing education credits, continuing medical education, SAT’s, college entrance exams, etc. It doesn’t matter if you are a teacher, business, consultant, tutor or home schooler. This screen shot is one screen of a tutorial. As you can see we have included the relevent text we want the student/employee to know and have included some media to give them visual aids on this particular set of information. Following the tutorial screens are quiz questions to test the the comprehension of the material.

Publishing CQuest Databases:

The following screen print shows what you see when you are finished with a database and wanting to make the test ready and available to take. CQuest couldn’t make this process any easier for you. All you have to do is highlight the test you want to make available and use the arrows to copy it to the middle window. You should have the box on the bottom left checked to include all media files.

Once you have everything ready to publish you select the folder in the top right that you would like the test to go in. You can publish the same test to multiple folders (so multiple testing options may be set), or you can have it only in one folder. Once you have the folder you want the test to appear in highlighted, simply click publish and you are ready to go.
